Summary of past Activities

Regular activities since 2002:

• Annual BBQ with members and families
• Annual year-end party
• Attendance at annual National Day celebration at the ROK Mission
• Sharing of books, videos or CDs of popular Korean dramas or movies
• Group visits to taste dishes at various Korean restaurants or eateries in the NY/NJ area
• Group attendance to see various events such as Korean movies, concerts and exhibits
• Email/hardcopy exchanges of articles and reviews on Korean culture, history, movies, dramas and food published in local and international newspapers or magazines.

Specific activities in 2007:

• Group attendance at Young Korean Artists Concert at DHL Auditorium in March
• Group attendance at Taekwondo demo by Grand Master Joon Rhee in ROK Mission in June
• Individual/group lunch at Korean Food Festival in the Delegate’s Dining Room in July
• Group attendance at the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra concert on 24 October
• Group attendance at the Sejong Soloist concert on 17 December
• Working lunches on a monthly basis since June to discuss and draft a constitution/by-laws for the proposed cultural society
• Annual year-end dinner as well as general meeting on the proposed Korean Cultural Society, including the election and appointment of officers on 19 December
• Individual and group attendance at the off-Broadway performance of ‘Jump’ at Union Square Theater during month of December

Specific activities of the Korean Cultural Society in 2008:

• Group attendance of Korean movie entitled ‘Shikgaek (Le Grand Chef)’ at ImagineAsian Theater on 23 January
• Proposed Society’s webpage currently under development for completion in 2008
• Working lunch on 13 February to finalize the drafting of the constitution and other related paperwork
• Group attendance at Noon Day Concert sponsored by the Korea Music Foundation on 22 February at DHL auditorium
• Meeting with film director Lee Chang-Dong on 7 May
• Group attendance at Taste of Korea 2008, Korean Cuisine: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow on 1 October
• Group attendance at Korean Traditional House exhibition (Stepping into Hanok for the New Millennium) in October
• Annual year-end dinner on 17 December

Specific activities of the Korean Cultural Society in 2009:

• Launching of KCS website (unkcs.org) in January
• Screening of Korean movie ‘Hwangjinyi’ at Dag Hammarskjöld Library (DHL) Auditorium on 20 February
• Group tour of Lee Young-Hee’s Hanbok Museum and Q&A session with the designer on 19 March
• Group attendance at UNSRC Club Fair 2009 on 26 June
• Individual participation at “A Korean Natural Dye Class” at the Lee Young Hee Museum of Korean Culture on 21 July 2009
• Calligraphy art work in Korean Alphabet (Hangeul) exhibit from 5-9 October in S-Building
• Annual year-end dinner on 18 December

Specific activities of the Korean Cultural Society in 2010:

• Individual and group attendance at the “The Scent of Spring” Korean opera on 25 February at the Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center
• Korean wine-tasting event on 23 April at DC1 Building Club Room (3rd floor)
• Individual visit to the Korean Art Show organized by the Galleries Association of Korea and the Korea International Art Fair (KIAF) at La Venue, Manhattan on 3-7 March.
• Individual participation at the the Korean Food & Culture Festival hosted by the Korea Cuisine Globalization Committee in Central Park on 30 July.
• Individual attendance at Chamber Music Concert with Korean Musicians of the New York Philharmonic & Joyce Yang on 15 October at the Bergen Performing Arts Center.
• Individual or Group attendance at the Seoul Gourmet Week (18-22 October) at the UN Delegates’ Dining Room.
• Screening of Korean movie ‘Poetry’ at Dag Hammarskjöld Library (DHL) Auditorium on 18 November
• Annual year-end dinner on 16 December

Specific activities of the Korean Cultural Society in 2011:

• Individual attendance at the Korean Art Show 2011, organized by the Galleries Association of Korea and Korea International Art Fair (KIAF) from 3 to 6 March at 82 Mercer Street, Soho, New York City.
• Meeting with Korean author Young-Ha Kim on 18 March
• Second Korean wine-tasting event on 3 June
• Individual or group attendance at Lee Young Hee Museum of Korean Culture Special Exhibition from 20 October - 3 November
• Korean movie evening on 4 November
• Annual club year-end dinner on 2 December at DC1 Building Club Room (3rd floor)
