First Lady Kim Yoon-ok says the government will actively support the globalization of Korean food.
Speaking at the international symposium “Korean Cuisine to the World 2009,” Kim cited that Health Magazine out of the U.S. selected kimchi as one of the world’s five healthiest foods and that the World Health Organization has labeled Korean dishes part of a nutritional and well-balanced meal.
The first lady said the government will put efforts into upgrading the image of the nation’s food, restaurant and tourism industries as a way of promoting Korean cuisine globally.
She suggested moves to adjust the taste, smell and ingredients of domestic cuisine abroad so that a wider range of people can enjoy Korean dishes.
Meanwhile, the minister for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Chang Tae-pyong, said in his keynote speech to the symposium that the government will spare no support in promoting Korean food abroad.
The chairman of the Presidential Council for Future and Vision, Kwak Seung-jun, said the domestic food industry can be turned into a high-value added industry and that it has the ability to create many quality jobs.
